Robert T. Gunby
Robert T. Gunby founded RTG Capital in September 2009 as he saw a need for consulting on raising debt and equity for his previous bank customers. The last 4 years of lending required extensive participations with many banks due to the size of the relationships. Mr. Gunby was able to leverage those relationships to find new sources of debt and equity for his clients. Using his knowledge and skills from being a commercial lender for all property types aided in getting debt and equity more efficiently.
Beginning in 2011, Mr. Gunby began to focus his attention to value add opportunities during the down turn, and began acquiring properties with his business partner from banks and landlords that were in distress. Beginning in 2013, the market began to become too expensive to acquire existing properties, so RTG turned to developing multi-family, retail, and single tenant Build-to-suits where returns were much better for RTG and his partners. Currently in 2016, RTG and partners have been actively focused on various medical property types, and well as continuing to look for good opportunities.
Prior to RTG Capital, Gunby was Vice President of Commercial Real Estate at American National Bank of Texas where he originated over $1 billion in commercial real estate loans, participating in over $650 million of those originations with other lending institutions. Mr. Gunby consistently managed a loan portfolio of over $400 million, which mainly consisted of construction loans. Earlier, Mr. Gunby was a commercial real estate lender at Colonial Bank where he was involved in over $350 million in loan originations and managed a loan portfolio of over $100 million.
Mr. Gunby graduated with a business degree from Mercer University, and received an MBA from Southern Methodist University. Mr. Gunby is a CCIM, has an active sales license in the state of Texas, and is involved in TREC. Mr. Gunby has served on the board of directors for Friends of Wednesday Child, which serves foster children in North Texas.
